Summer Championship

Information

Each year we organise a championship to encourage members to take part in local races. The reference to 'summer' should not be taken too literally as the events usually span from the end of March to early October!

The races are normally held over various distances ranging from 5 km (just over 3 miles) to the Half Marathon (13.1 miles). The scoring system is arranged so that 'slower' runners can still have a good chance of success by improving their times, i.e. achieving a personal best (PB).

Runners are divided into two divisions: the premier division and the first division, according to their current form.

Points are awarded as follows:

Points

Taking part in a race (and actually finishing!)

3

1st Baildon Runner to finish in your division

2nd

9

3rd

8

and so on down to

If you improve your personal best (PB) in a Summer Championship race

A few words of explanation - this list just shows age graded PBs achieved in Summer Championship races. If there is no PB recorded for a particular distance, the next Summer Championship race run over that distance becomes a PB but PB points are not awarded for that particular race. PB points will only be awarded when that time is improved upon.

We select a minimum of 12 races throughout the 'summer' period, but only a runner's 6 best scoring races count. This means that runners can select the races that suit them best.

The winners of each division are presented with a trophy at the Christmas Party and the highest points scorer - regardless of which division they are in - receives the Club Shield which they hold for one year.
